List of UNCW alumni
This is a list of notable alumni who attended the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW).
- Claudia Bassols, a multi-lingual Spanish actress, has appeared in some of Spain’s most renowned TV series, including Amar en tiempos revueltos, El mundo de Chema, C.L.A. no somos angeles, Mis adorables vecinos, La Reira and Gavilanes.
- Brett Blizzard (2003) has played for five professional basketball teams in his career.
- Craig Callahan (2003) went on to play basketball professionally in the Czech Republic after graduation. Named Most Valuable Player of the NBL (National Basketball League – Czech Republic) in 2006, Callahan was signed by the Eisbaren Bremerhaven of Germany’s top basketball league. He is currently one of the league’s top scorers.
- John Calipari (1980) has become the men’s head basketball coach at the University of Kentucky. Calipari has written three books about basketball including “Refuse to Lose,” “Basketball’s Half-Court Offense” and “Bounce Back: Overcoming Setbacks to Succeed in Business and in Life.” He has coached countless professional players, including John Wall.
- Kona Carmack (2000), who attended UNCW and joined Chi Omega sorority before transferring to USC, is a model and actress, most notably known for her appearance as Playboy Playmate of the Month in February 1996.
- Jean-Paul Chreky (2002), a film producer and director, has won countless awards for his graduate thesis film, The Shell (2005). He has also worked as a writer, director, assistant director and script supervisor in development of more recent productions.
- Billy Donlon (1999), , a previous assistant coach in UNCW men’s basketball, is the current head coach of the Wright State team in Dayton, Ohio.
- Melissa DiGiulian (2008), a beauty queen and UNCW grad, won the title of Miss Maryland USA 2006 in the state pageant. DiGiulian also competed in Miss USA in 2006.
- Phoebe Jeter is noted for being the only woman and first Air Defense Artillery Officer to lead a platoon that destroyed a SCUD missile fired against a U.S. Force during Desert Storm in Iraq.
- Rick Jones (1975) is currently the head coach of the Tulane Green Wave baseball team, and has led the team to 12 NCAA Tournament appearances.
- Brad Knighton (2007) has distinguished himself as the first soccer player from UNCW to be on a Major League Soccer roster. He Currently plays for the Carolina RailHawks of the North American Soccer League.
- Todd Lickliter (1976) went on to become the head coach of the University of Iowa team in 2007.
- Bevin Prince (2003), a UNCW film studies graduate, is an actress best known for her work on the CW television series One Tree Hill. She has also appeared in multiple independent films.
- Pablo Ramudo (1999), Laboratory Director and Water Quality Supervisor for North Marin Water District, Captain of the research vessel Architeuthis.
- Cecil R. Reynolds (1975), a UNCW psychology graduate, is now a psychology professor best known for his work in psychological testing and assessment. He has won countless psychology awards and has written multiple books.
- Brian Rowsom (1989) is a retired professional basketball player who played in 3 NBA seasons from 1987-1990 for the Pacers and Charlotte Hornets.
- Bill Saffo, Mayor of Wilmington, North Carolina (2007-Present)
- Terry Schappert, an anthropology graduate and a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity is a U.S. Army Special Forces medical sergeant and martial artist who is known for hosting the 2008 show Warriors on the History Channel. Schappert has also been the featured host on the Discovery Channel’s Shark Week.
- John M. Tyson (1974), Former judge on the North Carolina Court of Appeals, 2001 to 2009
- Skeet Ulrich (1991), actor (transferred to NYU)
- Carl Willis (1990), current pitching coach of the Cleveland Indians
